Michael Meisheid Receives Degree from Buena Vista University

Michael Meisheid, from Walker, was one of 699 students who received a degree from Buena Vista University at its commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 24. Meisheid graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in management and business economics. Founded in 1891, Buena Vista University offers 43 majors and 15 pre-professional programs that blend liberal arts with real-world applications, preparing students for lifelong success.

Vinton Garden Club hears about tree disease treatment options at April meeting

 The Vinton Garden Club member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., District II, and Central Region met at 11:30 am April 30, 2014 at the home of Luanna Hawkins for lunch with Anne Dake as co-hostess.  After lunch Mark Pigenot, Arbor Care LLC, gave an interesting presentation on “Treatment of trees for Emerald Ash borer and other diseases”.

ISU students named to spring semester Dean's List

More than 7,024 Iowa State University undergraduates have been recognized for outstanding academic achievement by being named to the 2014 spring semester Dean's List. Students named to the Dean's List must have earned a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.00 scale while carrying a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded course work.

Local Residents Named to Drake University President's List

The following local residents have been named to the Drake University President's List for the Spring 2014 semester. Students must have a perfect 4.0 grade-point average to receive this honor. Katherine Hanson of Vinton Emily Hohn of Belle Plaine Drake University is a midsized, highly selective private university in Des Moines, Iowa.

Benton/Tama Nutrient Reduction Demonstration project opens today

Today, Benton County and Tama County Soil & Water Conservation District Commissioners and project partners are celebrating the kick-off of the Benton/Tama Nutrient Reduction Demonstration Project at 10:30 AM at Lakeview Lodge at Hickory Hills Park located 6 miles north of Dysart on County Road V37. The Benton/Tama Nutrient Reduction Demonstration Project is located within the watersheds of Rock Creek, Pratt Creek and Lower Wolf Creek, which are in Benton County and Tama County.

100 + 1: Bethlehem Lutheran donates to VGH Gifts of Hope

George Bauer, Congregation President & Mike Timmermans from Virginia Gay Hospital   On Sunday, June 15th, Bethlehem Lutheran Church presented the sixth gift of $101 of the year, this time to the Gifts of Hope program, offered through Virginia Gay Hospital.  About 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. The Gifts of Hope is a program created to provide mammograms and pap/pelvic exams to women who couldn't afford them.
